Rumbek: 19 youth detained over a gun ban

Author : | Published: Friday, March 13, 2015

Police in Lakes State have arrested 19 youth found carrying arms along Rumbek-Yirol and Rumbek-Chueibet roads.

The state government banned carrying of guns in the town last month. The move is an effort to stop attacks and revenge killings in the state.

The Inspector of Police in Rumbek, Isaac Mayuom says the men came to the town from cattle camps within the state.

Their guns have been confiscated.

“The youth should just distance themselves from the town and the main roads. They should keep their gun in cattle camps,” Mr Mayuom told Eye Radio.

Mr. Mayuom urged the public to cooperate with police to identify criminals in Lakes state.

Last year, the national parliament attributed over 500 deaths to revenge attacks and raiding in the state.
