Over seventy hotel rooms were gutted when a fire broke out in the South Sudan Hotel.

It happend in the Bulluk area this morning.

The General Manager says an electrical fault caused the fire.

Around 20 fire fighters fought it as flames went about 6 meters into the sky. Soldiers and police were also helping.

The hotel General Manager says the damage caused by the fire is enormous.  Garang Mel says half the hotel has been destroyed.

“It is really a great loss,” said Mr. Mel, “all the rooms – more than 80 or more than 70 have burnt and everything inside is finished.”

The General Manager said a committee will be formed to assess the damage. It will then decide what will be the future for the hotel.

And Garang Mel is warning other hotel managers to guard against fires. He says they need to have safety measures.

This is the second time the South Sudan hotel has experienced a fire.
