Traditional chiefs in Rumbek North and Rumbek Central counties in Lakes State have agreed to report suspects involved in cattle raiding and revenge killings to the security agencies.

The chiefs told Eye Radio that the move could reduce killings and revenge attacks in the state.

The agreement was reached during a meeting attended by a team of government officials last week.

“A person who is moving on the way must not be killed. A thief must not go and take somebody’s cow. Nobody should go and attack somebody. These three things are what we have refused to be done.” said Makol Malual, one of the chiefs.

Local government minister, Jok Ayom Majak, chaired the meeting.

He represents a government committee that is finding ways for preventing further attacks and revenge killings among the communities.
