Armed attack in Abyei

The Abyei area chief administrative officer says one person has died and fourteen others have been wounded after a group attacked in the area yesterday.
Kuol Manyak told Eye Radio that armed men attacked, opening fire on civilians.
He said that a committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
The Abyei area is considered a historical bridge between northern and southern Sudan, it had previously been considered part of the larger Abyei District within the now-abolished state of West Kordofan.
Under the terms of the Abyei Protocol, the Abyei Area was declared, on an interim basis, to be simultaneously part of the states of South Kordofan and Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
