A pregnant woman in Ikwoto County died this week after being carried on a motorcycle to a health facility due to the lack of an ambulance.

A clinic officer in the county, Lodia Carlos, says the woman, identified as Paska, had been in labour for four days at home before being taken to hospital, but her condition had already become critical.

He said the absence of an ambulance in the county forces patients in emergencies to use unsafe transport, which can worsen their condition.

Carlos has urged families to seek medical care early during labour and not wait at home, saying early referral can save lives.

He also advised expectant mothers in remote areas to move closer to health facilities as their delivery dates approach to avoid delays in emergencies.

He called on government authorities, county officials, and humanitarian partners to provide ambulances and strengthen emergency response services.

Residents have raised concern that poor transport and weak health services continue to put pregnant women at serious risk in the area.
