Sudanese Muslims living in Juba have renewed calls for an end to the war in Sudan as they joined thousands of worshippers in celebrating Eid Al-Adha.

The war in Sudan began in April 2023 after fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.

The conflict has since triggered widespread violence, displacement, and a deep humanitarian crisis, forcing millions of people to flee their homes, including to neighboring South Sudan.

During Eid prayers and celebrations held in different parts of Juba, many Sudanese refugees used the occasion to pray for peace, stability, and reconciliation in their home country and across the region.

Speaking during the celebrations, Adam Osman Mohammed called for an end to the war.

“Today I am very happy to meet Muslims from around the world, especially here at Zahra Ground during this beautiful Eid celebration. We hope all Sudanese remain patient because the war we are facing needs patience. We also call on the Sudanese government to stop the war.”

Another worshipper, Naima Ali Mohammed Adam from Nyala, expressed hope for peace and stability.

“I am Naima Ali Mohammed Adam from Nyala. We are now here in South Sudan and we hope Sudan will become peaceful, safe, and stable again, with prosperity and security, God willing.”

A third worshipper also urged prayers for peace in both Sudan and South Sudan.

“My greetings to our beloved Sudan. We pray to God during these blessed days that the country enjoys peace, security, and stability across all parts of our homeland. These are difficult days, and we ask God to guide and protect both the Sudanese people and our brothers and sisters in South Sudan.”

The celebrations come as Sudan’s conflict continues with no clear resolution, displacing millions and straining humanitarian conditions across the region.
