Al Ghazala Wau secured their first national title with the Super Cup victory over El Merriekh Bentiu 1-0 at Buluk Playground in Juba, in a match that ended with incidents of violence and gunfire in the air.

El Merriekh Bentiu, the league and cup champions, started the match by attempting to draw Al Ghazala’s defensive players out of position.

The Bentiu side tried to build play from the back, hoping to pull the Al Ghazala players forward and create spaces behind the defence. However, Al Ghazala remained disciplined and maintained their defensive shape.

They applied pressure from the middle of the pitch, keeping the gap between the defence and midfield lines narrow to prevent El Merriekh from exploiting spaces in front of the backline.

Al Ghazala mainly relied on long balls into the attacking areas and runs from the right wing.

However, their attacks lacked sufficient support from the midfield and wide players, making it easier for El Merriekh defenders to deal with the threat.

The first half ended goalless, with neither side creating many clear scoring opportunities.

The second half was more attacking after both coaches made changes in midfield and attack. The two teams exchanged attacks as they searched for the opening goal.

Al Ghazala finally broke the deadlock in the 81st minute after a quick counterattack, by left winger Kuot Chan scoring the only goal of the match.

The referee added five minutes of stoppage time, but El Merriekh Bentiu could not find an equalizer. The final whistle confirmed Al Ghazala Wau’s victory and their Super Cup triumph.

After the match, a small number of spectators reportedly became involved in acts of violence. The situation later escalated, with gunshots fired into the air as tensions rose following the final whistle.
