Western Equatoria State parliament has summoned four ministers to answer questions related to administrative gaps in their jurisdictions.

Speaker Right Honorable Wakila Charles said she summoned the officials in accordance with article 112 (1) of the state transitional constitution.

The Minister of Health, James Adu Votoki is being summoned for the lack of service and drugs in hospitals across the state.

The Minister of Cabinet Affairs John Boroyo has been summoned to explain the absence of the Council of Ministers meeting and to present the work plans of other ministries.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance, Economy, and Investment, Isaac Murusa has also been summoned to appear before the August House to explain the delay in the presentation of the state’s annual budget.

Others are what the parliament terms as unnecessary cutting of monthly salary, suspension of operation costs of government institutions, and nonpayment of annual entitlement to the state government officials.

The fourth official summoned is the Minister of Public Service and Human Resource Development, Matuku DJ Sam.

He is expected to explain the delay in the integration of state manpower, the exact amount of manpower in the state, and the issue of defunct state salaries.

Mary Sungu, the Chairperson of the Information Committee at the state parliament gave a statement to Eye Radio on the summon.

“In the assembly we resolved to summon four ministers; minister of finance, minister of Public Service, minister of cabinet affairs, and Minister of Health so they are supposed to appear tomorrow Monday in the assembly to answer some questions,” she said.

“So the minister of health was summoned because of the issue of the hospital. The facility is there physically, but the service is not there. People are dying, women are dying during delivery and other issues, so we decided to summon him.”

Ms. Sungu explained that the summon is to keep the state government in check.

The cabinet officials are expected to appear before the parliament tomorrow, on Monday.
