WES Agriculture minister emphasizes tree planting

Western Equatoria Minister of Agriculture is calling upon people to plant more trees in residential areas.

Trees can be wind breaks; they can prevent strong winds from destroying houses and properties.

Last week, rainstorms destroyed many houses in Juba and other parts of the country.

Minister Yugulle Kayuku told Eye Radio that there is a need to replace trees that have been cut down for construction.

“If we continue cutting….we’re inviting heavy winds to come and rain to come and devastate our plantations,” said Mr Kayuku.

“If you were here in early seventies, you would see the vegetation around Juba different. But the way its standing now, it is the one inviting wind.”

Honorable Kayugu said planting trees will also provide healthy and beautiful places for children to play and learn.
