“…I don’t think that we shall be so naive to that tune.”

The Governor of Western Bahr El-Ghazal State says he does not support the idea of federal system of governance because it is too progressive.

The governors of the three states of Equatoria say they and their people are for federal system of governance in South Sudan.

However, while addressing a press conference in Wau, Governor Rizik Zakaria Hassan, of Western Bahr El-Ghazal State, says those who are calling for federalism want to divide the people of South Sudan.

“Some states they have advantages. For instance when you talk about Central Equatoria State, they advantaged by having the national capital located within their premises, …Secondly, …sometimes federalism means isolation of ethnicities or separating of people or running away with the cake” the Governor said.

Governor Rizik also said federalism cannot succeed in the absence of government structures in the ten states of South Sudan:

Governor Rizik Zakaria also said the most important thing, which is urgently needed is development of infrastructure, which he says is one of the essential components for qualifying for government status.
