Warrap parliament goes on one-month recess

The spokesperson of Warrap State Legislative Assembly announced that the August House will go on a one-month recess next week, where lawmakers will resume work in April.

Recess, a parliamentary procedure, is a short break in a meeting of a deliberative assembly in which the members may leave the assembly and interact with members of their constituencies.

Makuei Thot Makuei, the Chairperson of the state Specialized Committee on Information, the August House has been conducting businesses since November 2024.

He also the house will have another break in May to enable members engage in agriculture.

“We are now almost to break for recess maybe this coming week, we are going to break for a short recess because our time has elapsed already,” he said.

The parliament was reopened on 24 November 2023 for the third session, and it is heading towards the end of the session.

“So hopefully by this coming week, Warrap State parliament will break for recess. We will have one month recess because maybe on day 26 February, the parliament will go for recess up to the 1st of April 2024.”

“The parliament will report back and then they will spend another month and will go back for recess again, because the agricultural season will come, and it is also important for parliamentarian to go and cultivate.”
