Warrap: 1000 malnourished children need food

Author : | Published: Tuesday, November 4, 2014

More than 1,000 malnourished children in Warrap State are in dire need of food, a humanitarian agency has said.

These kids live in Manguei, Agany, Mayom Anyuon and Manhawan sites.

The manager of Action Against Hunger, William Deng Maleng, says these children have no food and the kids are in need of supplementary feeding.

Mr. Deng says the World Food Program, which was the main food provider to the IDPs’ feeding centers has closed its program.

“The community needs more training to learn how to feed their kids,” Mr Maleng suggested.

“Then NGOs and the local authority should join hands with the community to improve living standards in the area. I would urge the community not to be lazy.”

William Maleng urged the community to desist from laziness, and urged them to engage in farming activities and cultivates simple crops such as vegetables during dry season.

Child malnutrition is on the rise in the country, according to humanitarian agencies. Unicef South Sudan is said to have kicked-off a health campaign to reach 600,000 children.
