Kiir arrives in Khartoum

President Salva Kiir is in Khartoum for talks with his Sudanese counterpart, President Omar el-Bashir.

He was received at Khartoum International Airport by President Omar El-Bashir.

President Kiir is accompanied by ministers from the national government, and a number of businessmen from South Sudan.

“Two leaders will be meeting soon and discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, and they will also be discussing issues to do with trade and businesses,” Mawien Makol, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Eye Radio.

“That’s why the President is accompanied by people from business sector. They will also be discussing border issues and the movement of people and goods.”

Meanwhile, Sudanese Ambassador to South Sudan, Dr. Mutrif Siddiq, told the media in Khartoum that Presidents el-Bashir and Kiir will investigate issues of common interest.

He says, on the top of these issues, are security negotiations over the establishment of demilitarized buffer zone between Sudan and South Sudan.

Sudan News Agency, SUNA, reports that the two leaders have entered closed door meetings in Khartoum.

They are discussing outstanding issues regarding the implementation of the 2012 Cooperation Agreement between South Sudan and Sudan.
