About 188,000 pounds is being given to vulnerable people in five Payams in Leer County, Unity state.

The free cash is being issued for the next two month to more than 500 hundred people, as assistance from Mercy Corps organization.

According to Mercy Corps, each person receives 100 pounds.

Mary Nyalat is the project officer in Leer. She said the aim for supporting vulnerable people with money monthly is in an effort to reduce poverty.

“The reason as to why we came up with the idea is to target the old people that are venerable because they cannot work nor do difficult jobs that can sustain their lives,” she said.

“And again, it is to try to eliminate poverty and make people equal.”

Some of the recipients said they would use the money to establish small business in the county.
