Situation in Upper Nile is clam as people mark one year since the fighting erupted across the country, according to a state official.

Last year, the conflict erupted in Juba few days before Christmas. Soon, it escalated to Jonglei and Upper Nile states.

Bor and Malakal were the most affected towns across the country. There were frequent clashes between government and the SPLM-In Opposition forces.

“The situation in general is okay in all parts of Upper Nile; there is no any problem at the moment,” said Peter Hoth, Upper Nile state Minister of Information.

“My message to South Sudanese children especially the children of Upper Nile state is, let us show love to one another and let us celebrate the Christmas season with peace and love.”

At least 20,000 people took shelter at the camp at the height of the conflict.

Last month, about half of the people who were displaced to the UN camp returned to the town, according to the state deputy governor.
