The UN Mission in South Sudan says it is planning to relocate Internally Displaced Persons from its camp in Malakal to a new location.

UNMISS says the current UN camp in Malakal town is too crowded.

“The condition is not health and if there is any outbreak of any disease it will spread throughout the side,” Ariane Quentier, the Mission’s spokesperson, told Eye Radio.

Ms Quentier said the new protection site will be spacious enough for the growing number of IDPs in Malakal.

She added that the recurrence of fighting in the country is hindering UNMISS’s work in Upper Nile state.

UNMISS is currently hosting over 21,000 people in its UN base in Malakal town of Upper Nile state.
