Tungwar Kueiguong, a prominent Unity State paramount chief who served for 40 years, died on Sunday after a short illness, his son has said.

His son Matar Tungwar said his father passed on peacefully at Promise Hospital where he was admitted in Juba.

“It is with grief and sadness that I announce the passing of a great man, father and paramount chief in South Sudan and particularly in Unity State,” he said to Eye Radio.

He describe his father as a truly patriotic elder and a liberator.

Kueiguong is the father of Tor Tungwar, the current Deputy Governor of Unity State and Lam Tungwar, a former child soldier, now a state minister.

Matar said the late chief had summoned all his children and grandchildren and distributed his properties before his demise.

“The moment of his death happens after he has called his grandchildren, sons, and daughters to bring a goat for blessing after that he distributed his property, money, and transport for them to go back home,” Matar said.

“His death came after a short illness he was rushed to promise hospital for medical attention and he did not respond.”

Born in Malith Village of Rubkona County, Kueiguong served as the paramount chief of Unity State for four decades.

He died at the age of 86, survived by several children.
