Unity ranked best CPE performing state for second year in row

Unity State has emerged as the best performing state in the Certificate of Primary Education results announced on Wednesday as 129 pupils from across the country squeezed into top 10 positions.

It is the second time the oil-rich state has ranked number one followed by Jonglei State and Warrap State in those two years.

In the 2022-2023 CPE results, released in April last year, Unity State scored 78.9 percent, followed by Jonglei State with 75.2 percent and the third is Warrap State which 74.6 percent.

But according to the 2023-2024 results Unity elevated its top position with a score of 82.2 percent, followed by Jonglei with 77.2 percent and Warrap State with 75.2 percent.

These are followed by Greater Pibor, Northrn Bhar el Ghazal, Central Equatoria, Lakes, Western Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria and Upper Nile respectively.

This, however, does not mean students in Unity State scored the highest grade but that the state has the biggest percentage of students who passed.

Meanwhile, George Swaka Salvador from the JCC Primary School in Juba emerged as the number one – after scoring 475 marks.

He has beaten his 69,573 classmates, comprising 28,575 males and 30,908 females, who sat for the examinations which were conducted 20th of November 2023.

JCC Primary School also leads the best schools in the country.

Speaking upon the release of the results on Wednesday, General Education Minister Awut Deng Achuil said, 63,937 candidates passed the exams while 4,344 failed.

Ruweng and conflict affected Abyei Administrative areas ranked bottom of the list as the worst performing regions country.
