The Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for South Sudan, Moustapha Soumaré says the revocation of a decision by the government to expel its official is encouraging.

Mr. Soumare has just concluded a tour to UNMISS Protection of Civilian sites around the country, including the one in Bentiu.

In statement by the mission, says the move is an example of a positive outcome of engaging government both at the local and national levels.

Early this week, Unity state local authorities warned Ms May Cummin not to return to the state capital Bentiu.

“What is really important to remember is that UNMISS is really engaging the Government to ensure that we can implement our mandate effectively,” said Mr. Soumare

He also reiterated the Mission’s willingness to continue to work with the government.

Last week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Eye Radio that the Unity State Coordinator of UNMISS, May Cummins would return to Bentiu to continue with her duties.
