A video circulated on social media has identified a woman who says she was abducted in 2006 by Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and forced into marriage during her time in captivity.

The woman, the Azande Television identified as Aniyessi Tereja, 33, recently surrendered alongside other individuals linked to Kony’s circle and was received at a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) facility in CRA before being transferred to Kampala.

She is reported to be the daughter of the late Badista Basanji (RIP) and Mrs. Moje Naboromba from Karika Village, Yambio, Western Equatoria State. Her family background also includes her grandfather, Ginaca Yangweru, and her siblings, John Iko and Jita Tongasi.

During an interrogation, she reportedly spoke fluent Acholi and was able to recall several relatives from her home area, which supported her account of long-term captivity under the LRA.

She is also said to have a four-year-old daughter.

Authorities in Uganda, through the UPDF, are reportedly making arrangements for her repatriation to South Sudan together with her child. Coordination is expected to take place at the Nimule border, where relatives may receive her and assist with her return home.

Members of the public who may recognize her family are being urged to come forward to help facilitate contact and ensure a safe handover.
