Authorities in Kajo-Keji County have banned the sale, distribution and consumption of harmful Ugandan made alcoholic spirits, including brands such as Happy Gin, Fighter Gin, Adricos and Jonneys.
The ban is being enforced jointly by organized forces and law enforcement agencies following resolutions passed by the Kajo-Keji County Executive Council to protect public health, maintain law and order and safeguard young people in the county.
Speaking during the enforcement exercise, Kajo-Keji County Commissioner Wani Jackson Mule said the county government remains committed to implementing the by-laws across all markets, trading centers and communities.
He commended police and other security agencies for their cooperation and professionalism during the operation.
The commissioner said the growing abuse of harmful alcoholic spirits among young people has contributed to increased cases of crime, violence, school dropouts, domestic conflicts and irresponsible behavior in society.
He warned residents against violating the county by-laws, saying anyone found selling or distributing the banned products would face legal action.
Wani also urged young people to engage in productive activities such as education, agriculture, sports and entrepreneurship to support the development of the county.
The county leadership appealed to business owners, traders, parents, community leaders and religious institutions to cooperate with law enforcement officers by reporting illegal alcohol sales and supporting awareness campaigns against substance abuse.
The county government said it will continue working with security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure peace, stability and responsible conduct throughout Kajo-Keji County.
