New York-based South Sudanese model Shanelle Nyasiase has donated 20 bags of food items to internally displaced persons at Mangateen in Juba.

The international model announced the donation of maize flour, soaps and biscuits to the displaced populations at the camp which also hosts refugees and returnees from Sudan.

Nyasiase appeals to South Sudan well-wishers, government and partners to support vulnerable populations faced with acute food shortage across the country.

The beauty queen says she came to the country to mourn a deceased relative, but then decided that the charity was necessary and lent out her hand.

“My message as South Sudanese community and the country itself, is for us to come together otherwise no one else will come to change us. We have to come together, plan and help,” she said in an interview with Eye Radio.

“If somebody need water, just give you know, because I did not plan these, it is just because I show it, I have to be helpful. So, the message is whoever outside there instead of doing your things alone. Let’s just share the ideas, come together if even its little, we can support.”

On his part, Geng Maliah, the Deputy Camp Chairperson has commended the gesture by the international model.

Maliah however said the donation is a drop in the ocean and still appeals for more assistance to 14,000 individuals living in the Mangateen Camp.

“In Mangateen IDPs camp there are 14,000 individuals and in terms of the household they’re 2, 0205. So we are facing a lot of challenges here,” said the camp leader.

“One of them is the issue of food. Since World Food Program stopped their assistance, we did not receive any assistance from any organization. We don’t have Primary Health Care unit which is another threat within our living conditions.”

“The third one is the issues of school. We have a school called “DMI” and “DMI” have pulled-out. It now our brothers and sisters who have the capacity of teaching skills are the one volunteering to give knowledge to our children.”
