Traffic police receives training on speed gun use

The National Traffic Police says it is training traffic officers on the use of speed gun in order to reduce road accidents in the country.

A speed gunis a device used to measure the speedof moving objects.

The Director of Public Relationship and Traffic Awareness at the Traffic Police Headquarters, Colonel Salah Saleem, says they will also introduce new electronic system to check the speed of the vehicles.

In an exclusive statement to Eye Radio, Colonel Saleem says most of the road accidents occur along Juba –Nimule high way.

He says the main causes of the accidents are speeding and careless driving.

“When those drivers who drive trucks from Uganda and Kenya exceed the speed limit and the traffic police run after then, they increase the speed and this causes accidents,” said Col Saleem.

He also said the directorate of traffic police has deployed Highway Traffic Force along Juba and Nimule-road to help control traffic movement.

Colonel Salah Saleem said when they start using the speed gun, anyone drives who exceeds the speed limits will be fined.
