A new session of the peace talks has been scheduled for the 16th of October in Ethiopia.

The spokesperson of the government delegation, Michael Makuei Lueth, says IGAD mediators ended the current session in which the parties could not agree on the powers of the prime minster.

“They have decided to call off this session with effect from tomorrow that the parties go back and that they go for further consultations especially with the principles and the IGAD leadership so that the issue of prime minister is determined – whether the prime minister will be an executive or a non-executive prime minister,” Mr Makuei said.

The minister said the warring parties also could not agree on the period during which the peace agreement would come into force if it is signed.

He said that the parties however agreed on a transitional period of two and half years. The cabinet will have between 24 and 29 ministers.
