Sudan supplies opposition with weapons – Report

Author : | Published: Wednesday, June 3, 2015

A new report suggests that there is a direct supply of weapons from Sudan to the SPLM in Opposition forces.

The Conflict Armament Research says it visited the bases of the SPLA at the end of last year to inspect the weapons captured from the opposition forces.

The group says 70% of the ammunition documented was manufactured from Sudan, with the majority produced in 2014.

It says the recent date of manufacture is further evidence of direct supply from Khartoum to the SPLM in Opposition forces.

Observers on the ground also reported that aircrafts dropped additional military equipment to the SPLM in Opposition forces in Upper Nile and Jonglei States, throughout December 2014.

The SPLM in Opposition has described the report as baseless. The deputy military spokesman of the opposition forces, Dickson Gatluak, says his group gets weapons from the government.

He says their forces took a lot of guns when the head of Division 8 in Jonglei moved to the SPLM in Opposition in December 2013.

Mr Gatluak also announced that they captured some weapons and ammunitions from government troops.

The Sudanese embassy in Juba is yet to comment on the report.
