The Inspector of Police in Yei River County in Central Equatoria State says a student was beaten to death last evening in a communal fighting in the town.

The fighting erupted during a traditional dance within a church compound at Lomuku Residential area.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of the clash.

Inspector Jeremiah Maker says the 23-year old man was caught up in the fighting between two sections from Lakes State.

He has called for calm.

“I need to call on the residents not to cause any problem to happen. Any person breaking this will take it at his own risk,” Maker said.

“If you have any problem, come to the police administration for us to follow it up. This is very important, so I need all the citizens not to get involved into this matter.”

Mr Maker said one suspect has been arrested over the killing and that further investigations are under way to arrest more.
