SPLM-IO discusses its team accommodation with JMEC

Author : | Published: Thursday, January 21, 2016

The SPLM in Opposition says they are discussing further with the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission and the IGAD, accommodation of its members in Juba.

A group of more than 500 members of the SPLM-IO arrived in Juba last month for the implementation of the peace agreement.

They were checked into five hotels in Juba, namely; Dembesh, Landmark, Crown, Juba Grand, and Riviera.

Their accommodation is being sponsored by the Troika countries, through the JMEC.

However, the SPLM in opposition says they have been asked by the government to leave the hotels by tomorrow, 22nd of this month.

The Spokesperson of Dr. Riek Machar, James Gatdet says their team living in the hotels in Juba has nowhere to go to.

“The government says they [advance team] should move out by the 22nd Jan, because according to their understanding, Troika countries were not willing to accommodate them, and the government does not have money to continue to accommodate them,” Mr Gatdet told Eye Radio.

Efforts to reach the government for response on the matter has not been successful

Tomorrow is also when the government of national unity should be formed, according to the JMEC timetable.

But both the government and the SPLM in Opposition have not agreed to form the government due to a dispute over the creation of more state.
