The ruling party will carry out a nation-wide peace campaign  in the next sixty days, a senior SPLM  official has said.

The party’s Secretary for External Affairs, Suzan Jambo, told the meida in Juba  that the SPLM will use the media, rallies and conferences to educate the public about the peace process during the pre- interim period.

The plan comes days after President Salva Kiir and former Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar agreed to work on establishment of an interim government of national unity within two months.

“We will arrange the rallies and develop programs that will be also aired through the media, conferences and workshops in all the ten states,” said Ms Jambo.

“This will enable us reach out to others areas where the conflict has affected them most.”

She said the ruling party will speed up the process of drafting a permanent constitution  for the country.

“Our position is that the current ongoing permanent constitution drafting process must be strengthened and must be made transparent, accountable and  inclusive,” said the External Affairs  Secretary.

“So in that, we also consider that as a process, we would like to engage all our people in the entire republic in that process. So this is how we look at inclusivity.”

Ms Jambo also said it is urgent that humanitarian assistance reaches people in the areas that have been affected by the conflict.
