South Sudan’s Bismarck shines at 2023 Grand Nairobi Bike Race

A member of the South Sudanese Juba Cycling Club Bismarck Oroma has shined after emerging as number 26 out of hundreds of Cylists at the 2023 Grand Nairobi Bike Race.

The Grand Nairobi Bike Race happens annually and for the first time, South Sudan was invited.

The country was represented by 6 males and 1 female in different categories.

The team returned home after participating and representing South Sudan for the first time in a cycling competition in Nairobi Kenya this week.

According to the ranking, South Sudan did so well that the best out of the seven riders was Bismack, he came at number 26.

“In mid-October, we received an invitation from the Grand Nairobi bike race, they invited us to take part in the race so we went on Thursday, me and the other seven cyclists six males and one female,” Yusif told Eye Radio.

“We were divided into four categories, myself, Ngor, I was in the elite category and then Bismak then four other cyclists Emma, Nyuon, Dictor and Tethloach went to under twenty-three categories,” he said.

“We had a female rider, Amna who was in the category of family riders,” he added.

‘We went but we first started to practice. Our ranking was very good it was our first experience as South Sudanese. I was number thirty-six, Bismack was twenty-six, and Dictor was fifth. Emma was fifty-nine followed by Nyuon fifty-four the last one was Tethloach was seventy-nine. ”

The Juba Cycling Club was started in 2020 by a group of friends and eventually grew to be a large group of bicycle riders.
