South Sudan resolves to boost ties with Russia

A national cabinet meeting on Monday directed various ministries to implement a report on the recent Russia-Africa summit including strengthening bilateral ties between Juba and Moscow.

The Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, Taban Deng Gai presented a report to the Cabinet on his attendance at the 2nd Russia-Africa summit held in Moscow last month.

According to the information minister Michael Makuei, the report on the 2nd Russian-Africa summit focused on peace, security, humanitarian, and development in Africa.

Makuei said after deliberation, the cabinet approved the report and directed for the formation of the committee to ensure the resolution is implemented.

“He [Taban Deng Gai] came up also with resolutions and recommendations among them were the establishment of cooperation to strengthen the cooperation between South Sudan and Russia,” Makuei said.

He was speaking to reporters after the extraordinary Council of Ministers meeting chaired by President Salva Kiir in Juba on Monday, August 21.

“This report was also appreciated and commended and the Minister’s concern on those issues that have been resolved to follow them up and make sure that they are operationalized.”

“It is worth mentioning that the committees will be set up and will start working for the operationalization of all the resolutions.”
