The Council of Ministers on Monday approved reports on the agreements made in the recent trip of President Salva Kiir to neighboring Kenya, and of Vice President Abdelbagi to Tanzania.

During the visit, President Kiir and his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto agreed on boosting trade and strengthening bilateral cooperation including implementation of the LAPSSET projects.

The two leaders also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for South Sudan to import fiber optic cable through Eldoret.

Information Minister Michael Makuei said relevant ministers have been directed to follow up on the signed deals.

“They managed to resolve some of the outstanding issues and they signed some of the outstanding MoU [Memorandum of Understandings] on the relationship between the two countries [South Sudan and Kenya] and the meeting was cordial,” says Makuei.

“It was good, and the cabinet decided that the Ministries concerned should take up from there and follow up the implementation or operationalization of those MoUs and agreement which was made between the two countries.”

“The Cabinet appreciated the report and commended it and pass it with the directives to the Ministers concern to follow up from there.”

In a related development, the cabinet also approved a presentation by Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi Akol on the Africa Human Capital Heads of State Summit held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in July 2023.

The summit discussed the need to draw attention to the role of human capital in economic growth and elevate the focus on the importance of investing in people through technical support.

Minister Makuei said the concerned ministries were directed to implement the resolutions of the report after it was passed by the cabinet.
