The defense lawyers of the sixteen individuals convicted of playing a role in the loss of more than $14 million from the Office of the President have submitted their appeal against the ruling in court.

Those convicted include five foreign nationals.

Two weeks ago, the High Court sentenced the 16 individuals to life in prison after they were found guilty of forging the signature of the president, complicity, and the use of presidential stamps, among others.

They were also charged with the loss of another 30 million South Sudanese Pounds.

Presiding judge Ladu Armenio said the convicts had the same charges.

However, their defense lawyers had disagreed with the ruling and vowed to appeal the decision of the court.

“We would like the court of appeal to look into the decision of the high court judge of Juba because the judgement which was passed was against and a violation of the constitutional right for the accused persons,” said Reech Ring Bol, a defense lawyer.

According to the law, Mr Ring said, the court of appeal is supposed to respond to the appeal within 60 days.

The individuals sentenced include the former security officer John Agou Wuoi, former Executive Director Mayen Wol, former chief administrator Yel Luol, Anyang Majok Ayuen and Francis Yata.

Others are Anyieth Chaat Paul, Chaat Paul, Diing Ajiing, Nhumot Agot and Anthony Madimo.

They also include Ana Kalisto, Kur Ayuen, Garang Aguer, Anthony Dia, Raphini Jadada, and one Lisiuma.
