The Ministry of Agriculture has launched a seed laboratory in Yei River County, Central Equatoria State.

The laboratory will process viable seeds for farmers in the whole country.

The Commissioner of Yei County, David Juma Agustine, says the facility will be located in Kagulu Forest Reserve and it will supply farmers with seeds, especially during the rainy season.

Mr. Juma told Eye Radio the laboratory will benefit both subsistent and commercial farmers.

“We will be producing all types of seeds; whether crop seeds or tree seedlings,” he said.

“All the 10 states of South Sudan will have their seeds processed from this center. And the people of Yei definitely, as the area where the center is located, will be having plenty of seeds and our people will do a lot of afforestation in order to have personal plantations.”

Commissioner David Juma also said the seed laboratory will provide employment opportunities for the residents of Yei and South Sudanese from other parts of the country.
