The Governor of Western Equatoria has dismissed rumors that the President wants to arrest the governors of the three states of Equatoria over federalism controversy.

The three governors of Equatoria had been rumored to mobilize their people of Equatoria region to campaign for federalism.

Bangasi Joseph Bakasoro is in Juba to meet President Salva Kiir. He says he will discuss with him how to bring lasting peace to the country.

The Governor addressed reporters at Juba International Airport.

“When he stepped down from the helicopter, Mr. Bakasoro accused some individuals of attempting to overthrow the Government by telling lies,” reported Eye’s Radio’s Moses Legge.

Governor Bakasoro said this will not help the people of South Sudan.

“There is a very big propaganda going around in Juba and has reached the states. It has been labeled by certain individuals in the country, who are trying to topple the government by telling big lies that the Governors of Equatoria are going to be arrested by the President. ‘We are in danger; we are going to be killed in Juba’,” he dismissed the rumors.

“So, I have come here to testify that this is not true.”

The governor went on to say such lies could destabilize the country.

“As South Sudanese, we need to love our country by talking positively about it and if there are mistakes, let us articulate them in the manner that will not destroy the whole country,” he added.

Mr. Bakasor urged the people of South Sudan to maintain peace and stability….and promote the spirit of unity.
