Authorities in Western Equatoria State say the police are investigating the abduction of a woman in Mundri West County.

County commissioner Hassan Bakhit says the incident happened on Tuesday, when a group of unknown gunmen shot into the air many times at Janga locality, about two kilometers from Mundri Town.

“Unknown men came and kidnapped a girl, she is around 23 years. We don’t know their whereabouts up to now. The unknown gunmen came into a certain house, and we don’t know the motive behind this kidnapping and this house it’s a little bit far from the town,” he said, adding that there were no injuries reported after the incident.

There have been many incidents of insecurity in Mundri town since an unknown gunman shot dead the county executive director, John Keliopa, in May.

Last week, one of the CID officers was reportedly killed and three civilians injured in an attack on a hotel.
