The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says a government delegation is in Egypt to pay bursaries to South Sudan students on government scholarships in the various universities.

They have occupied the embassy in Cairo for more than two months now in protest against delayed payment of the money.

There are about 160 students on scholarship and each student is paid about 100 US dollars per month.

They say they have not received the money for a year.

Embassy officials have been forced to work at their homes.

‘‘The Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology went to Cairo with the money to pay and solved the issue of the students in Egypt who have been occupying the embassy for almost two months now”, Mawen Makol, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

“…and we are glad that the government has resolved the issue of the students.”

He said the embassy will reopen when the issue is resolved.

The students’ representative in Cairo, Kot Maker, has confirmed the arrival of the delegation.

He says students are still waiting for any information from the officials.
