Delegates on the security committee at the peace talks in Addis Ababa have disagreed on the number of armies during the transitional period.

The government wants one army but the opposition says there should be two.

Peter Bashir Gbandi is the head of the government team in the security committee that is discussing the matter.

“Our position as the government is that, we want those who were partisans of the SPLA to come back with seniority and ranks and those none competent who were been absorbed or other alliances like the militias we don’t want.’’ He said.

“We wanted an army that will have a nation outlook that is reflective of all the nationalities of south Sudan to avoid the root causes of the current conflict.’’

The spokesman of the SPLM in Opposition, Puot Kang Chol, says there should be two separate armies to guarantee the implementation of the agreement.
