The National Legislature has ratified the agreement on the resolution of the current conflict.

President Salva Kiir and Dr Riek Machar signed the deal last month.

The Minister Justice, Paulino Wanawilla, presented the agreement to a joint sitting of the national assembly and the Council of States this morning.

‘‘This presentation is in accordance with article 1 of chapter 8 of the agreement which provides that this agreement, shall upon signature be presented to and the adopted within 7days by the national legislature in the Republic of South Sudan,” Mr Wanawilla told MPs.

“I respectably summit this agreement to you for deliberation and the adoption.”

The speaker of the national legislature, Manasse Magok Rundial, opened the floor for debate.

“This is a clear agreement. It should not take much of our time. We are tasked to adopt this agreement, so do we adopt it?” he asked.

The MPs unanimously agreed and stood up to clap in approval.

“Those who do not want … No abstention?” Mr Manasse asked, amid applause.

He then ruled the deal has been ratified.

According to the agreement, the SPLM in Opposition will also ratify the deal.
