1. The U.S Special Envoy to Sudan and South Sudan, Donald Booth, is in South Sudan to help defuse tensions between the two warring parties.

 

2. President Salva Kiir says he will not take South Sudan back to war.

 

3. The Secretary-General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, has asked the Security Council to send an extra 5,500 peacekeepers to South Sudan to better protect civilians from violence.
