The National Legislative Assembly

The Speaker of the transitional National Legislative Assembly has urged parliamentarians to avoid spreading rumors of insecurity among other members and to the public.

Anthony Lino Makana says such rumors cause panic within the public.

This comes after security reports cited two members of parliament spreading rumors of insecurity to other parliamentarians.

It is not clear what the rumor is about. Mr Makana did not disclose the names of the two parliamentarians.

“I don’t want people to be spreading rumors among ourselves,” Hon Makana said during a sitting of the August House on Wednesday.

The Transitional Parliament also formed a 17 member committee to review how business is conduct in the parliament, and to ensure it conforms to both the constitution and the peace agreement.

The committee is made up of members all the parties to the peace agreement.

During the session, one Member of Parliament from opposition, Buai Gek Thuran, was also sworn in.
