A national lawmaker is seeking clarification as to why the Governor of Central Equatorial State has not relieved the Lainya County Commissioner as demanded by the national parliament.

Last week, the August House wrote to the governor of Central Equatoria State to remove Emmanuel Richard Khamis as the acting mayor of Juba and the commissioner of Lainya.

The unanimous call followed a video of him on social media slapping a female street vendor.

Governor Emmanuel Adil sacked ex-caretaker Mayor Khamis last Friday.

But MP Reath Mouch Tang says he was also supposed to be removed as Lainya County Commissioner based on the August House recommendation.

“We have heard that the Commissioner of Lainya County is not relieved, he was just relieved as Acting Mayor, but he is not relieved as Commissioner of Lainya County. We need to clarify that,” Hon. Reath stated during Tuesday’s seating.

On his part, John Agany, the Parliament Spokesperson agrees with Mouch.

However, he commended Governor Emmanuel Adil for having acted accordingly.

“We recommended that the person in question must be removed from both places and the governor has accordingly as a responsible citizen of this nation listened to the August House and acted accordingly today [Tuesday],” said Agany.

“It is sending a signal to the nation that this house has gained momentum as the first arm of the government and for that matter,” he said.

“We will continue to behave the way we are and we will be seeing that our people are respected and honoured”.
