Mistrust among soldiers caused Wau violence – report

Author : | Published: Thursday, July 21, 2016

The recent incidents of fighting in Wau were caused by lack of trust among soldiers, according to a finding.

An investigation committee, headed by the minister of Health, Dr Riek Gai, completed its work and returned to Juba last weekend.

It concluded that “what created the insecurity was the lack of trust between the individual soldiers who’d go to the neighborhood and start taking law into their hands”.

“[We] recommend the army has to relocate from the population center to the outskirt of Wau town to put their defensive position there,” John Andruga, the committee’s spokesperson, told Eye Radio.

Mr Andrgua said the committee is still finalizing the report to be summited to the president.

According to the UN, around 50 people were killed in the violence. And some 120,000 people fled their homes in the town.

Majority are reportedly still in UN camp.
