The leader of the SPLM in Opposition, Dr Riek Machar is in Kampala to meet Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni over the implementation of the peace agreement.

He told the press in Addis Ababa last evening before taking off for Kampala that he would also discuss the creation of more states with Mr Museveni.

“For me this is important because president Museveni from day one was a part to the conflict, to the war. Uganda was also a party to search for peace in south Sudan until the peace agreement was signed, and according to the agreement, Uganda is also part of the implementing countries; it’s a grantor top to the peace agreement.,” said Dr. Riek Machar.

“So I think this meeting in Kampala will create new relations.”

The creation of more states is one of the key issues that have delayed the formation of a transitional government of nationality.

The SPLM in Opposition says it is a violation of the peace agreement. But the government says it is a demand of the people and should not be reversed.

The chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, Festus Gontebanye Mogae, had told the parties to negotiate the matter as a political issue, but not a legal matter.

The parties are yet to strike a deal over the dispute.
