The speaker of the Lakes State Legislative Assembly has sent MPs on a three-month recess, shortly after forming the assembly leadership in a process some members have contested.

Dhieu Wal says within this time the legislators will preach peace and gather views of the people on service delivery.

“That is what the MPs normally do in his or her community. He should be listening to them because he has been in the assembly for the last six months without going back to the people,” Mr Dhieu told Eye Radio.

“He will be listening to what they are talking about; their needs so that in the coming session he will come back and report to the house and the house will take them to the executive for solutions.”

The recess comes less than two weeks after the speaker named the chairpersons of specialized committees in a process that some members have criticized as unprocedural.

Mr Dhieu named the deputies in Rumbek yesterday before sending the house on recess.
