The police in the capital Juba said they have registered increasing cases of mysterious deaths and suicide incidents in the past week.

South Sudan Police Spokesperson Major General Daniel Justin said dead bodies were discovered in public places like markets and roadsides.

General Justin said the police also registered four suicide cases – including a student of Upper Nile University Student last week.

“We have registered some cases of people who lost their lives in public places like markets and then we have also registered like four cases of suicide; one of them is a student in upper Nile University,” Justin said while briefing the media on the weekend.

The student third year student reportedly took her life in an undisclosed location in Gudele street.

In a suicide note that Eye Radio could not independently verify, the young woman begged for forgiveness from her family and others that she might have wronged.

Meanwhile, Daniel Justin said two criminal cases were registered – including the theft of a motorbike where the owner was shot and wounded in Gumbo Sherikat.

“We have registered two cases last week whereby a motorbike was robbed and the owner was shot on the other side of the river, on the road just near Sherikat.”

“He was wounded so generally this week we had six cases of death some need to be investigated to know the cause of the death”.

On the unexplained deaths, Justin said one of the victims is a Sudanese national whose body was found dead under a bridge and taken for postmortem.

“We found a dead Sudanese person on the bridge he was found in the morning and now the body was taken to the hospital and the postmortem process is going on to find whether he died as a result of an attack on him.”

He said the incidents will be investigated to ascertain the root causes.
