Sudan’s Special Envoy Dafallah al Haj jetted to Juba on Monday to brief President Salva Kiir on the current situation in his troubled country.

Al Haj landed in Juba amid the ongoing talks between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in Jeddah Saudi Arabia.

The talks are aimed at forging a lasting ceasefire to open humanitarian corridor and allow civilians to escape to safety.

According to a press statement from the Office of the President, the Sudanese envoy said his country has full confidence on President Kiir to mediate the deadly fallout between General al-Burhan and General Hemedti.

“The Envoy who was dispatched by General Abdel Fattah al Burhan said Juba remains a prime place for the Sudanese peace talks, due to its closeness to the hearts of the people of Sudan,” reads the statement.

South Sudan’s Acting Foreign Affairs Minister Deng Dau is also reported to have said that the regional and international partners have entrusted President Kiir with the responsibility to bringing the Sudanese warring parties to a negotiating table.

According to Dau, President Kiir called on the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces to fully adhere to the agreed ceasefire in order to allow humanitarians reach the people trapped by the conflict.
