Researchers from South Sudan and Sudan public universities have urged leaders of both countries to create a peaceful environment to improve bilateral relations between the two countries.

They made the resolution last week following a conference held in Khartoum to discuss the unresolved border disputes between the two states.

Dr. James Okuk was among a group of South Sudanese intellectuals who participated in the debate.

“The main aim of that conference was on how to create a peaceful environment between the two countries especially within the context of the recently signed peace agreement on the resolution of conflict in South Sudan, and also revival of the nine cooperation agreements which were signed in September 2012,” Dr Okuk said.

He also said resolving the border issue between South Sudan and Sudan will create enabling conditions for refugees of both countries in either side.

According to Dr Okuk, the recent meeting between officials from the two countries in Addis Ababa has resolved 80% of the border conflict.

He said both sides now need to fully implement cooperation agreements.
