Security arrangements at Juba International Airport ahead of the third anniversary celebrations of the independence have been put in place, an official has announced.

Juba Airport handles international and local airlines, cargo air traffic and chartered commercial flights.

The country is expected to receive big numbers of guests who will join us during the independence celebrations, 9 July.

“We are now preparing for reception of fights that will come to Juba from outside South Sudan.  We are prepared to receive them and arrange for their parking on that day,” Kur Kuol, the Director of the airport, told Eye Radio’s Dawn Show.

“Four days ago, we also deployed security units here at the airport and they are prepared to secure the airport from inside and the government will secure the airport from outside.”

Prior to the independence of South Sudan in 2011, Juba International Airport underwent improvements and expansion.

The work on the airport included expansion of the passenger and cargo terminal buildings, resurfacing of the runway and installation of landing lights to facilitate night operations.
