The International Organization for Migration, I-O-M, says it is conducting the first mass oral cholera vaccination campaign in South Sudan.

The campaign targets an estimated 86,000 internally displaced persons who are sheltering at camps inside the United Nations Mission in various locations in the country.

The agency says it has so far conducted cholera vaccinations in Jonglei State capital, Bor.

Other priority areas will be identified by the health cluster, and I-O-M will respond accordingly, I-O-M’s Reporting and Information Officer for South Sudan, Harish Murthi, told Eye Radio.

“So, this vaccination campaign will also curtail the potential threat of the disease going to other locations in the event people move to other location,” he said.

Mr. Murthi said the second round is planned for the 20th May, during which they will cover people who were not covered during the last round.
