Illegal teak exporters to be brought to book

Author : | Published: Sunday, April 19, 2015

The Council of Ministers has given directives to security personnel to arrest companies that are using government logos and forged documents to export teak out of South Sudan.

The order comes after the Ministry of Agriculture revealed that trucks loaded with teak were apprehended.

The date and the place of the arrest were not mentioned.

“These companies are using fake documents for the importation of teak –  for the logging of teak and transportation of teak across the borders,” Michael Makuei, Information Minister, told the media after a regular meeting of the council yesterday.

“Those who are using fake documents in the name of the government and using government logos and so forth should brought to the book.”

Mr. Makuei said the council will discuss with relevant authorities on ways of protecting forests in the country.
